Venus' Bloodshed The theme I wanted to go for in this piece is how America is afraid of their past, afraid of confronting the old wounds despite so many years of trying to repair those wounds. In this piece I create a physical adaptation of the black history American societies shield such as Black Panther movements, racist brutality, the countless people attacked or killed, and the African American stories that kept a shed of hope.
Sheep in Wolf's Clothing The fact that trans rights are classified as political disgusts me. I don't like that my human rights are being decided by elderly white men with a lot of money. I don't like how "the trans agenda" according to people against trans rights boils down to "mutilating people's bodies, predatory behavior, grooming children, and spreading this woke propaganda because we're mentally ill." When you put it into a visual, literal representation it looks ridiculous and horrific.
Visceral Discomfort As a black, neurodivergent person, when I was younger people used to be afraid of me in school. I was very quiet and struggled understanding social cues and often had an expressionless face causing people to be intimidated by me. I didn't even realize this fear people had of me until middle school but this piece is meant to represent that image people had of me as a kid. Or rather, the opposite of what I really was.
Mariposa de Noche Global warming is an issue that has been neglected by people who can actually do something drastic about it. The world is dying, animals are suffering mass habitat loss causing them to rapidly go extinct, we are having drastic weather in locations we have never see it before, and poor air quality in places like China to the point where it is harming it's citizens. We as a collective society need to do something to help wether we are doing the little things or the bigger things.
Good for Nothing When a minority makes artwork, I've noticed it is usually expected that all of their work is meant to show their struggles. It gets to a point where anything else they make isn't "good enough" or doesn't have enough of a strong meaning. Why can someone who does't experience these aggressions make art that portrays lighter themes and be praised but if someone else does it, it isn't good enough?
